Episode 20: Psychic Contest: Mind Over Matter
It’s another bright and sunny day in the beautiful city of Crestlight and the group are outside the contest hall with other trainers and their pokemon.
“Alright Pruddy, we’re going to do a lot of hard training before the contest” Ella says to Pruddy kneeling on the ground. The boys sit eating ice cream while Ella trains,
“So do you think Ella will win this time?” Ash asks Cole and Brock, while Pikachu shares a ice cream with Purrlit and Lavenseed,
“I don’t know, she did well in her last contest, maybe she’ll get to the finals this time” Brock says,
“Pruddy use swift!” Ella calls out, Pruddy jumps into the air and swings its tail doing a swift attack, “Now Pruddy use Psychic!” Ella shouts, Pruddy uses Psychic on the swift attack and swirls it around in the air to form a giant halo like ring around Pruddy,
“Wow Pruddy that’s amazing!” Ella says, “We’re gonna win for sure!” she says with joy.
Meanwhile Team Rocket are also outside the contest hall, with Jesse disguised as Jesselina,
“Now James give me Chimecho” Jesse says holding out her hand, James hands her Chimecho’s pokeball, “Here” he sighs “Just don’t be so hard on it this time” he says,
“I would never, I know that me and Chimecho are going to win this contest, just like the last contest” Jesse says snatching the pokeball from James’ hand, James sighs again.
Jesse lets Chimecho out of its pokeball and James tells it to listen to her in the contest and it nods.
Ash, Cole and Brock look around the outside of the contest hall at all the trainers and their pokemon, a female trainer with a Kadabra is using Psychic to make its sthingy float around in the air, a male trainer with his Spoink is bouncing its pearl on its head, another female trainer and her Mime Jr. are juggling balls, “Wow look at all these Psychic Pokemon” Cole says in aw, “Ella’s got some hard work ahead of her” Brock says, just then they hear a boys voice from behind them, they turn to see a boy with spiky dark blue hair with a small blue pokemon sitting on the ground, “What’s going on?” Ella asks the boy,
“Its my Psycharm, its nervous about the contest” he says, “Psycharm?” Ella says, Cole pulls out his Pokedex and it scans it,
“Psycharm, the Luck Pokemon, Psycharm are so popular because it is believed to bring good luck to any trainer that catches one” it says,
“Wow a Psycharm, oh by the way I’m Ella!” Ella says, “Hi Ella, I’m Peter and as you see this is my Psycharm” Peter says, the boys come all introduces themselves too, “So why is Psycharm so nervous?” Ash asks, “Its nervous because this is out first contest” Peter says, Ella crouches down to Psycharm who is sitting on the ground, “Psycharm there’s nothing to be scared about, contests are fun” Ella says, Psycharm looks at her, “You’ll see” she says, “Peter, you both shouldn’t be so nervous, this is my 2nd contest so I’m sorta starting out too” she says, “Oh wow thanks Ella” Peter says, “I’m sure you and Psycharm will do good” Ella says.
A while later the contest is about to start,
“Welcome to the Crestlight City type contest!” the contest host says, “My name is Corrine, and I’ll be your host for the Psychic type contest!” she says into the mic as the crowd cheers, Ash, Cole and Brock sit in the crowd with Pikachu waving a sign with Ella’s face on it, Wooper dancing around and Lavenseed bounces a pom-pom on it’s leafs,
“Lets get this contest started, first up is Jesselina!” Corrine says,
Jesse disguised as Jesselina steps out on the stage and the crowd cheers, Jesse throws a pokeball with a seal it, the pokeball bursts open and flashes of coloured light fill the stage and Chimecho emerges from it all, and the crowd cheers even louder, James, Meowth, Wobbuffet and Solshrub sit in the crowd watching and James gets all emotional over Chimecho’s performance, “Go Chimecho!” he shouts out,
Jesse commands Chimecho to use Psybeam, Chimecho flies into the air and its bell on its head starts to glow and it releases a colourful beam of light from it’s head into the air, “Now Chimecho Heal Bell!” Jesse shouts out, Chimecho rings its bell on its head and sends out a soothing sound that gets everyone relaxed, “That’s so nice” people in the crowd say, “Wow” James says with a grin on his face,
The crowd cheers for Jesse and Chimecho, Jesse leaves the stage and walks pass Peter and Ella,
“You can’t beat that,” she says to them as she passes by, “Don’t listen to her Peter, I know you and Psycharm will do good” she says to Peter who looks all nervous,
“That was an amazing appeal by Jesselina and Chimecho” Corrine says, “Now the next contestant is Peter!” Corinne shouts out, and Peter walks onto the stage nervously, he makes it into the middle of the stage and just stands there, and the crowd wait in silence, “Peter!” Ella calls out, Peter looks to the side of the stage where Ella is, and she nods to him, “Oh!” he says, he pulls out a pokeball and throws it out on stage and Psycharm comes out, “Psycharm use Light Screen!” Peter calls out, Psycharm looks at the crowd and freezes in fear, “Come on Psycharm you can do it” the boys call out, Psycharm looks at Peter and he smiles at it, Psycharm focuses and raises its arms and its eyes start glowing and walls of light start surrounding it, “good Psycharm, now use Psychic!” Peter then calls out, Psycharm, Psycharm uses psychic and it surrounds the Light Screen and the light screens smash into thousands of pieces, creating sparkles of light, “Wow” the crowd say in awe, “That was amazing!” they say,
“That was truly an amazing appeal!” Corrine says, Peter and Psycharm exit the stage, “Wow Peter that was amazing” Ella says, “Thanks Ella!” Peter says and Psycharm smiles,
Other trainers go next, a boy with an Espeon uses Psychic to make balls fly around in the air, a girl with a Solrock uses a Fire Spin attack, and another girl uses a Jynx to use an Ice beam attack, and then its Ella’s turn, “Next up is Ella!” Corrine says, Ella walks onto stage and throws a pokeball out and stars start flying out of it and Pruddy emerges, “Pruddy use Swift!” Ella says, Pruddy uses Swift and sends it flying into the air,
“Wow” Peter says watching behind stage,
“Now Pruddy use quick attack!” Ella says, Pruddy jumps into the air and dashes around the swift attack, “Pruddy now use Glamorise!” Ella says, “Glamorise?” Ash says,
Pruddy stops in the swift attack and starts glowing a pink glow and it releases it in a blast of sparkling light and sparkles, “YYYEEEAAAHHH!!!” the crowd roar as Pruddy lands back on the ground and flicks its tail and winks to everyone, “Wow that was the best yet!” Cole says, “Glamorise, what attack is that?” Ash asks, “Glamorise is an attack that allows the user to release a blast of light that can confuse or hypnotize a foe” Brock says, “I guess Ella used Glamorise to captivate everyone, it was a good idea,” Brock says.
Jesselina and Peter watch in the back room, “Whoa, Ella is good!” Peter says, and Jesse’s face turns red with anger.
“Wow that was a spectacular performance from Ella and her Pruddy!” Corrine says and everyone in the crowd cheers, “Right let’s get to the next round!” Corrine says into the mic pointing to the big screen above the stage, faces of trainers scramble around on the screen and it stops, the screen goes black and then it reveals the 8 trainers going through, Ella, Peter and Jesse have all made it through!
“Well there we go, there is our top 8 coordinators!” Corrine says as everyone cheers,
“Looks like Ella and Peter both made it through” Ash says, “And they won’t be fighting each other too” Brock says, “Not unless they both make it to the final” Cole says.
“Lets start with the 3rd round, the battle round!” Corrine says.
The battles go through the random trainers, Ella battles the trainer with the Jynx and wins, Jesse battles a trainer with the Espeon and wins, Peter battles the trainer with Solrock and he wins.
“Wow what a day so far!” Corrine says, “Now lets get to the semi finals!” she says pointing up to the screen “This is how the battles will go!” the screen blinks on with Ella facing a random trainer and Jesse facing Peter, “Lets get the first battle going!” Corinne says,
Ella gets under way with her battle, against a trainer with a Girafarig, Pruddy beats the Girafarig and Ella wins the battle, making it into the final round.
Now the battle between Jesse and Peter gets under way.
Jesse stands on one side of the battlefield and Peter on the other, their faces appear on the screen with 5 Minutes set on the timer “The time is set, lets get this battle under way!” Corrine says into the mic,
“Chimecho go!” Jesse shouts throwing out a pokeball, and Chimecho emerges, “Alright Psycharm lets go!” Peter says also throwing out a pokeball and Psycharm appears, “Chimecho Psybeam!” Jesse calls out, “Dodge it Psycharm!” Peter shouts to Psycharm, the Psybeam hits the ground as Psycharm jumps into the air, “Psycharm use Shadow Ball!” Peter calls out, Psycharm focuses and its eyes start glowing black, and a Shadow Ball attack forms before it, “Go Psycharm!” Psycharm releases the Shadow Ball at Chimecho, “Chimecho dodge the Shadow Ball!” Jesse shouts, Chimecho flies into the air as the Shadow Ball passes Chimecho, “Psycharm use Psychic on the Shadow Ball!” Peter says,
“What?” Ella mumbles to herself watching behind stage, Psycharm uses Psychic to grab the Shadow Ball and it swings it back at Chimecho hitting it directly, knocking off heaps of point on Jesse’s side, “Argh!” Jesse says, “Chimecho Heal Bell!” Jesse calls out, Chimecho starts ringing its bell and it heals itself, “Now use Double-Edge!!” Jesse shouts, “Double-Edge no!” James says,
Chimecho charges at Psycharm and tackles it, knocking off points on Jesse’s and Peter’s side, “Psycharm, hold on!” Peter calls out, “Psycharm use Shadow Ball again!” Psycharm charges up another Shadow Ball as the timer gets down to the last seconds, Psycharm releases the Shadow Ball, “Chimecho Psybeam!” Jesse shouts, Chimecho Fires off a Psybeam as Psycharm’s Shadow Ball and the 2 attacks collide causing a massive explosion filling the stage with black smoke, the timer runs out and no one can see anything,
Everybody waits to see who won and all stare at the screen above the stage, the smoke clears and the screen reveals Psycharm still standing and Chimecho on the ground knocked out, “Peter and Psycharm win the battle!” Corrine says into the mic, Jesse turns red in anger, “AAAAAHHHHH” She screams returning Chimecho back into its pokeball, “Psycharm you did it!” Peter says picking it up and hugging it, “Hey Peter and Psycharm won, so now he will face Ella in the final” Brock says, “I’ll be cheering for both of them!” Ash says.
Peter and Psycharm go back to the back room where Ella is, and Ella congratulates him on his win, “See I told you there was nothing to be scared about, just focus and you can do anything” she says,
“Thanks Ella, I guess it’s down to you and me” Peter says, “I guess so!” Ella replies.
Meanwhile James, Meowth, Wobbuffet and Solshrub wait for Jesse outside the contest hall,
Jesse walks up to them and hands James his Chimecho back, “Thanks for nothing!” she says,
“Jess, Chimecho did really good” Meowth says, “Yeah well not good enough!” She screams at Meowth,
“Lets get out of here” Jesse says marching off,
“Don’t you wanna stay and see who wins?” James says, “If it’s not me, then I don’t care!” she says walking away, James and Meowth look at each other, and sigh and follow her.
Back inside the Contest Hall, Ella and Peter stand opposite each other on the battlefield,
“The final battle is between Ella and Pruddy, against Peter and Psycharm, who will win the Crestlight City, Mystic Ribbon, lets get under way and find out!” Corrine says into the mic, the crowd cheer and Ella and Pruddy stand their ground ready to fight Peter and Psycharm,
“Lets go!” they both say together, “Pruddy Swift attack go!” Ella says, Pruddy flicks its tail releasing a wave of spinning stars at Psycharm, “Psycharm dodge it!” Peter says, “Not so fast” Ella mumbles to herself, “Pruddy Psychic now!” Ella shouts out, Pruddy quickly stops Psycharm with the Psychic attack and the Swift hits Psycharm,
“Wow that was a good attack combo,” Cole says,
“Good shot Pruddy!” Ella calls out, “Psycharm get up!” Peter calls out to Psycharm, as Psycharm gets up, “Psycharm Recover!” Peter calls out, Psycharm starts glowing to heal itself,
“Now’s our chance Pruddy!” Ella shouts out, “Swift attack go!” she says, Pruddy swings its tail and releases a wave of stars spinning at Psycharm just as Psycharm finishes healing, and is hit again, but it still manages to hold on, “Go Psycharm Mind Blast!” Peter shouts, Psycharm puts its hands on its head and focuses on Pruddy, “Pruddy Quick attack go!” Pruddy charges up at Psycharm, “NOW!” Peter shouts, Psycharm releases a blast of energy from its head straight at Pruddy, and Pruddy is hit sending it flying backwards to the ground, “Pruddy no!” Ella says, with a minute left on the clock the points are even, “Come on Pruddy, its out last chance!” Ella says as Pruddy gets up, “Come on Psycharm!” Peter shouts out, “Pruddy Swift!” Ella says, “Psycharm Shadow Ball!” Peter says,
Pruddy swings its tail again releasing another wave of spinning stars, and Psycharm charges up another Shadow Ball and releases it, the Swift attack and Shadow Ball collide causing a massive explosion, sending smoke everywhere, Ash, Brock and Cole await in the crowd to see who has won the battle, the smoke clears and Pruddy and Psycharm are still standing, with only seconds left, “Wow their both still standing” Ash says,
“Lets go Pruddy, Swift one more time!” Ella shouts, “Psycharm go, Shadow Ball again!” they both release their attacks again, “Not this time” Ella says to herself, “Pruddy Quick Attack now!” Pruddy quickly dashes throughout its Swift attack and the Swift and Shadow Ball collide causing another explosion causing more smoke, but Pruddy comes charging out of it and tackles Psycharm knocking it to the ground just as the timer ends, knocking points off Peter,
The screen then flicks to Ella and Pruddy’s faces with the word ‘Winner’ and a ribbon next to them,
“We…we won?” Ella says to herself, “WE WON!” she says as Pruddy runs up to her and they hug as the crowd cheer her on,
“Wow she won her first ribbon!” Cole says as Lavenseed and Pikachu dance around and Wooper jumps up and down,
“Congratulations Ella and Pruddy, you have won the contest, and the Crestlight City Ribbon, the Mystic Ribbon” Corrine says, Ella and Pruddy stand on stage as Corrine hands her the Mystic Ribbon,
“I won the Mystic Ribbon!” she says pointing it into the air as Pruddy sits on her shoulder.
The sun is setting and the contest is over and Ash, Brock, Cole, Ella and Pruddy are outside with Peter and Psycharm, “Thanks for that amazing battle Ella” Peter says, “It was my pleasure” she replies,
“I hear that the next contest will be in Rustbolt City” Peter says, “That’s where Cole’s and my next gym battles will be too” Ash says, “So I guess where heading to Rustbolt City” Ella says,
“I won’t see you there, cause I’m gonna stay here and train Psycharm for when the next Psychic Type contest is on” Peter says,
“I hope we get to battle again” he says, “I hope so too” she replies,
“Bye!” the group say waving goodbye as they head off down the road onto the next town, Rustbolt City.

Everybody waits to see who won and all stare at the screen above the stage, the smoke clears and the screen reveals Psycharm still standing and Chimecho on the ground knocked out, “Peter and Psycharm win the battle!” Corrine says into the mic, Jesse turns red in anger, “AAAAAHHHHH” She screams returning Chimecho back into its pokeball, “Psycharm you did it!” Peter says picking it up and hugging it, “Hey Peter and Psycharm won, so now he will face Ella in the final” Brock says, “I’ll be cheering for both of them!” Ash says.
Peter and Psycharm go back to the back room where Ella is, and Ella congratulates him on his win, “See I told you there was nothing to be scared about, just focus and you can do anything” she says,
“Thanks Ella, I guess it’s down to you and me” Peter says, “I guess so!” Ella replies.
Meanwhile James, Meowth, Wobbuffet and Solshrub wait for Jesse outside the contest hall,
Jesse walks up to them and hands James his Chimecho back, “Thanks for nothing!” she says,
“Jess, Chimecho did really good” Meowth says, “Yeah well not good enough!” She screams at Meowth,
“Lets get out of here” Jesse says marching off,
“Don’t you wanna stay and see who wins?” James says, “If it’s not me, then I don’t care!” she says walking away, James and Meowth look at each other, and sigh and follow her.
Back inside the Contest Hall, Ella and Peter stand opposite each other on the battlefield,
“The final battle is between Ella and Pruddy, against Peter and Psycharm, who will win the Crestlight City, Mystic Ribbon, lets get under way and find out!” Corrine says into the mic, the crowd cheer and Ella and Pruddy stand their ground ready to fight Peter and Psycharm,
“Lets go!” they both say together, “Pruddy Swift attack go!” Ella says, Pruddy flicks its tail releasing a wave of spinning stars at Psycharm, “Psycharm dodge it!” Peter says, “Not so fast” Ella mumbles to herself, “Pruddy Psychic now!” Ella shouts out, Pruddy quickly stops Psycharm with the Psychic attack and the Swift hits Psycharm,
“Wow that was a good attack combo,” Cole says,
“Good shot Pruddy!” Ella calls out, “Psycharm get up!” Peter calls out to Psycharm, as Psycharm gets up, “Psycharm Recover!” Peter calls out, Psycharm starts glowing to heal itself,
“Now’s our chance Pruddy!” Ella shouts out, “Swift attack go!” she says, Pruddy swings its tail and releases a wave of stars spinning at Psycharm just as Psycharm finishes healing, and is hit again, but it still manages to hold on, “Go Psycharm Mind Blast!” Peter shouts, Psycharm puts its hands on its head and focuses on Pruddy, “Pruddy Quick attack go!” Pruddy charges up at Psycharm, “NOW!” Peter shouts, Psycharm releases a blast of energy from its head straight at Pruddy, and Pruddy is hit sending it flying backwards to the ground, “Pruddy no!” Ella says, with a minute left on the clock the points are even, “Come on Pruddy, its out last chance!” Ella says as Pruddy gets up, “Come on Psycharm!” Peter shouts out, “Pruddy Swift!” Ella says, “Psycharm Shadow Ball!” Peter says,
Pruddy swings its tail again releasing another wave of spinning stars, and Psycharm charges up another Shadow Ball and releases it, the Swift attack and Shadow Ball collide causing a massive explosion, sending smoke everywhere, Ash, Brock and Cole await in the crowd to see who has won the battle, the smoke clears and Pruddy and Psycharm are still standing, with only seconds left, “Wow their both still standing” Ash says,
“Lets go Pruddy, Swift one more time!” Ella shouts, “Psycharm go, Shadow Ball again!” they both release their attacks again, “Not this time” Ella says to herself, “Pruddy Quick Attack now!” Pruddy quickly dashes throughout its Swift attack and the Swift and Shadow Ball collide causing another explosion causing more smoke, but Pruddy comes charging out of it and tackles Psycharm knocking it to the ground just as the timer ends, knocking points off Peter,
The screen then flicks to Ella and Pruddy’s faces with the word ‘Winner’ and a ribbon next to them,
“We…we won?” Ella says to herself, “WE WON!” she says as Pruddy runs up to her and they hug as the crowd cheer her on,
“Wow she won her first ribbon!” Cole says as Lavenseed and Pikachu dance around and Wooper jumps up and down,
“Congratulations Ella and Pruddy, you have won the contest, and the Crestlight City Ribbon, the Mystic Ribbon” Corrine says, Ella and Pruddy stand on stage as Corrine hands her the Mystic Ribbon,
“I won the Mystic Ribbon!” she says pointing it into the air as Pruddy sits on her shoulder.
The sun is setting and the contest is over and Ash, Brock, Cole, Ella and Pruddy are outside with Peter and Psycharm, “Thanks for that amazing battle Ella” Peter says, “It was my pleasure” she replies,
“I hear that the next contest will be in Rustbolt City” Peter says, “That’s where Cole’s and my next gym battles will be too” Ash says, “So I guess where heading to Rustbolt City” Ella says,
“I won’t see you there, cause I’m gonna stay here and train Psycharm for when the next Psychic Type contest is on” Peter says,
“I hope we get to battle again” he says, “I hope so too” she replies,
“Bye!” the group say waving goodbye as they head off down the road onto the next town, Rustbolt City.
